Michael Balock was born on December 1, 1911, in Patton, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Michael Balock and Barbara Balock. He served in the 44th Infantry Battalion, 6th Armored Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was one of the 75 soldiers killed during the liberation of Plabennec and Plouvien, France. PFC Balock is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
