Jack Delma Howard was born on December 26, 1920, in Nashville, Berrien County, Georgia. He was the son of Nina Pearl Howard Rowe.

Jack served in Company G, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Sergeant, during World War II. He died on September 21, 1944, during Operation Market Garden after participating in the Waal River crossing, the heroic crossing that liberated Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He was one of the 49 paratroopers killed during the assault on German positions on the opposite bank. Sgt Howard is now buried in the Harmon Gaskins Cemetery, Weber, Berrien County, Georgia, USA.
