Gerald Page Hereford, Jr. was born on December 6, 1923, in Ferguson, St. Louis County, Missouri. He was the son of Gerald Page Hereford and Ellen Rose Prendergast Hereford.

Gerald served in Company D,504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Private First Class, during World War II. He participated in the crossing of the Waal River and was killed by German artillery fire on his way to church in Lent on September 24, 1944. His name is etched on the monument at the crossing point on the Waal River although he survived the crossing, the other 48 listed didn't. He is now buried in the Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, Saint Louis, St. Louis City, Missouri, USA.
