Robert Stone “Twitch” Currier was born on July 8, 1919, in Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Karl M Currier and Alice Stone Merrill Currier.

Robert attended Warner Junior High School. He graduated from the Pennsylvania Military College in 1942 and immediately received his commission. After his entry to the US Army, 1Lt Currier was assigned to a chemical warfare division, but a short later, was transferred to an Airborne Division.

1Lt Currier served in Company A, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He was Killed in action on September 20, 1944, during Operation Market Garden while participating in the Waal River crossing, the heroic crossing that liberated Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He was one of the 49 paratroopers killed during the assault on German positions on the opposite bank. He had served in the Army for two years and four months at the time of his death. 1Lt Currier is now buried in the Riverview Cemetery, Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, USA.
