Cainie Jeter Clemons was born on December 14, 1921, in Franklin County, Virginia. He was the son of Clifton Dalton Clemons.

Cainie enlisted on October 31, 1942. At the time of his death, he was serving in Company I, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

Cainie, on a canvas boat, drowned during the crossing of the Waal River (probably after being wounded by German fire) about 2 km west of the Waal Bridge on September 20, 1944. He is now buried in the Clemons Cemetery, Boones Mill, Franklin County, Virginia, USA.
