Theodore served in Company C, 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division, 100th Infantry Division, during World War II. He was Killed in Action on January 9, 1945, in Rimling, France, and is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.

(Citation Needed) - SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes Pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Theodore M. Ihrig, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Company C, 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division, in action at Rimling, France, during World War II. Staff Sergeant Ihrig's gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
