Robert Swanzy was born on January 16, 1918, in Shelby County, Texas. He was the son of William Robert Swanzy and Sallie Mae Billingsley Swanzy. He was the husband of Wynona Kirl Prince.
Robert served in the 783rd Bomber Squadron, 465th Bomb Group, as a Captain and Pilot on the B-24 Liberator "TS" #42-52478 during World War II. On July 12, 1944, his crew took off from Pantanella airbase in Italy on a mission to attack the marshaling yard of Nīmes, France. Shot down by an enemy Me109 fighter, the crew evacuated their plane at 11h:30 (except for Sgt Montana). Their airplane crashed at Les Mays in the commune of La Tour-d'Aigues. Unfortunately, Cpt Swanzy was killed by an Me109 fire while descending by parachute. Originally buried at the town cemetery of La Tour-d'Aigues, he is now buried in the Memory Park Cemetery, Longview, Harrison County, Texas, USA.
