Danny Eric Goodwin was born on April 27, 1947, in Argyle Sound, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of Leonard Goodwin and Cora Goodwin of South Yarmouth, MA, who enlisted in the US Marines on May 31, 1966, in Boston, MA. He served in Vietnam with Company A, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st MAR DIV (Rein) FMF. Attached to the 1st Marines, LCpl Goodwin was participating in a road sweep for enemy explosive devices on route 4 in the Dien Ban District of Quang Nam Province. As the team of Marines was moving along the road in the vicinity of the Nhi Kinh village complex there was an explosion causing a six by six foot crater in the road killing LCpl Goodwin by the blast and fragmentation wounds from the hostile device.
