Guy Andre Blanchette was born on November 30, 1946, in Saint-Gérard, Estrie Region, Quebec, Canada. He was the son of Gerard Blanchette and Juliette Blanchette.

SGT Blanchette was a New Hampshire National Guardsman called up to serve in South Vietnam. At the time of his death, he was serving in Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 197th Artillery, 23rd Artillery Group, 2nd Field Force. Only a few days before they were to return home, he and four others were killed when their 5-ton truck hit a land mine on Highway 13, known as "Thunder Road," about 32 miles from Saigon.
