Alex Robert Tolparoff was born on August 4, 1941, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He was the husband of Arlene Ann Tolparoff of Azuza California, and the brother of Gertrude Munroe, all of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Alex entered the service (selected service) in the Army in Los Angeles, and upon completion of training, he received orders for duty in Vietnam. SP4 Tolparoff arrived in the country on January 17, 1968, where he was assigned to and served with B Company, 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, USARV.

On February 13, elements of the 4th Battalion engaged the enemy in the vicinity of Ap Cho, some 8 kilometers northwest of Hoc Mon in Hua Nghai Province. During the contact, which continued into the following day, eight men were killed in the action, one of the casualties was SP4 Tolparoff, as a result of the multi-fragmentation wounds he sustained by hostile fire.
