Born on 20 June 1946 in Montreal, Canada, Frank was the son of Henry E. Crabbe and Claire Crabbe.
Frank enlisted in the US Marine Corps on 7 January 1965 in Albany, NY, having completed his training, he was assigned to Lima Co, 3d Battalion, 5th Marines. His unit was deployed to Vietnam, and prior to arrival, the Company was redesignated as Charlie Co, 1st Battalion, 3d Marines.
On 14 February, south of Hill 190 in the Ho Vang District of Quang Nam Province, Vietnam, the lead Amtrac, en route to an operation, detonated a hidden mine in a depression in the roadway, causing a massive explosion and fire. The explosion killed 5 Marines, 22 men were wounded, including a US Navy Corpsman and an ARVN Interpreter, and 4 Marines died of their wounds.
PFC Crabbe was one of the casualties, evacuated to the NSA Navy Hospital in Da Nang where he died on February 16, 1966, as a result of extreme burns he had sustained from the hostile explosion. He was returned to Montreal and was buried in the Family Plot.
