John Chichilla was born on June 22, 1912, in Pittston, Pennsylvania, a small mining community outside Scranton. John was the only boy of five children, he was the baby. His parents, Ciprian and Mary came to America from Russia and lived their entire lives in Pittston.
John served in the 10th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on January 28, 1945, during the liberation of Putscheid, Luxembourg. He is now buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg.
