James Jim Robinson was born on May 16, 1921, in Portage, Wisconsin. He was the son of James William Robinson and Rose A. Doyle Robinson. He was the husband of Marian L. Scherbert Robinson.

James served in the 374th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot during World War II.

On July 24, 1944, aboard the P-51 Mustang #42-106837, 2Lt Robinson took off from Station 374 in Bottisham, England, for an escort mission and strafing opportunities. His plane crashed in the commune of Ste-Suzanne, France, after being shot down by flak. The airplane was hit on one wing, and the cockpit was filled with smoke. Fortunately, he was able to evacuate by parachute at 1,500 feet. With the help of Robert and Molière Andie (Chemiré-en-Charnie), Camille Lapinay (Neuvillette-en-Charnie), and Dr. Lenormand (Ste-Suzanne), he was able to escape German capture and return to duty.

Robinson died on September 11, 1980, at the age of 59, in Dane County, Wisconsin. He is now buried in the Saint Mary's Cemetery, Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin.
