Donald Darius Reed was born on March 23, 1931, in Saxton, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Milton R. Reed and Hannah J. Weaver Reed.
A graduate of Saxton Liberty High School in 1949, he later attended the Williamson Trade School in Media. He was employed by the West Chester Tube Company prior to enlisting in the Air Force at Sampson, N. Y., in May of 1952. He attended Air Force Cadet School, and his first assignment was at Chaumont. He received his pilot's wings in September 1954.
Lt. Reed was an instructor pilot and was qualified to fly C-47s and the F-86 jet fighter. He would have ended a three-year tour of duty at the French base and was scheduled to return to the States for reassignment. He was killed along with three passengers when his plane crashed at Baden-Baden, Black Forest area, Germany, on May 20, 1957. Lt Reed is now buried in the Grandview Cemetery, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, USA.
