Donald Murley Lewis, of Coalinga, California, was born on June 14, 1921. He was married to Earlynn M O'Donnell Lewis.
Donald served in the 382nd Fighter Squadron, 363rd Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-51 #43-6494 during World War II.
During his mission on April 5, 1944, at 03:00 PM, 2Lt Lewis was shot down by small arms fire while strafing the St-André-de-l'Eure aerodrome. He evacuated his airplane and with the aid of the maquis, he was able to survive and return to England on August 15, 1944. 2Lt Lewis was one of the 152 allied airmen and soldiers who were helped and hidden in the Freteval Forest camp by the French Resistance to evade German capture.
Lewis died on April 25, 1991, at the age of 69. He is now buried in the Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, Jackson County, Oregon, USA.
