Albert J. Carney was born on March 2, 1914, in Bloomington, Franklin County, Nebraska. He was the son of Jennie Adell Witfoth Hicks.

Albert enlisted in the Army on February 15, 1942, and at the time of his death, was serving in the Service Company of the 8th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 4th Armored Division, as a Technician 5th Grade. He was killed in Pont-Scorff, France, on August 8, 1944, and is now buried in the Fairview Cemetery, De Kalb, DeKalb County, Illinois, USA.
