Andrew Gordon Claytor was born on June 13, 1918, in Glasgow, Virginia. He was the son of Brenard Guy Claytor and Grace Eva Camden Claytor.
A pilot on the B-17 #423511, he was one of the survivors when his plane was shot down by flak on April 25, 1944. Their plane crashed in Precy-sur-Oise, seven miles southwest of Creil, France. He was one of the 152 allied airmen and soldiers who were helped and hidden in the Freteval Forest camp by the French Resistance to evade German capture.
2Lt Claytor died on August 31, 1998, at the age of 80, in Hickory, North Carolina. His current burial place is unknown.
