Remsen Bishop was born on July 14, 1889, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son of John Remsen Bishop and Anna Bartram (Newbold) Bishop of Detroit, Michigan. He was a graduate of the Eastern High School class of 1997, and also of the University of Michigan being a graduate of the engineering department of the class of 1991.
Lt Bishop was a student engineer at the General Electric plant in Schenectady, NY, and was later employed by the government at the Panama canal. He was also for a time in the employ of the Ford Motor Company of Detroit.
Remsen served in the 4th Aviation Instruction Center as a First Lieutenant during World War I. He was killed in an airplane accident in France on June 29, 1918. First Lieutenant Bishop is now buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
