Comments:

John Germaine Weller was born on March 17, 1917, in Garrett, DeKalb County, Indiana. He was the son of Archibald Germain Weller and Kathleen Mary Donahue Stiles.

John served in the 406th Fighter Squadron, 371 st Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-47D #42-22752 during World War II.

On August 9, 1944, he took off at A-6 airfield in Beuzeville, France, on an army reconnaissance mission in Lorient, France. At 8:40 PM, his plane crashed near Broons - 3.5 km southeast of Sevignac (possibly due to a mechanical problem). The pilot did not try to evacuate by parachute, perhaps unconscious. The plane dived towards the ground and exploded.

2Lt Weller was killed in the crash. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
