Harry W. Foose was born on April 13, 1921. He was raised in Casper where he attended grade school and was graduated from Natrona County High school. He then attended the University of Wyoming for three years before being called into the service. He was majoring in law.

In April, 1943, he took officers training at Ft. Benning, Ga., and in July 1943, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He was stationed at Camp Roberts, Calif., for a short while then was sent to Camp Robinson, Ark., in November of 1943. He reported for overseas duty at Ft. Meade, Md., April 28, 1944, and arrived in France from England on July 9.

Harry was Killed in Action on August 26, 1944, at the age of 23, during the liberation of Vexin, France. He is now buried in the Highland Cemetery, Casper, Natrona County, Wyoming, USA.

Lt. Foose was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star posthumously.

Cited for bravery, the citation, which was received by his mother read as follows:

"For gallantry in action against the enemy on 26 August 1944. During determined enemy attack supported by tanks, Lt. Foose moved about with utter disregard for his own safety, to points from which he could most effectively direct the fire of his platoon. "He guided tank destroyers to a vantage point from which they could engage the enemy tanks. When the tank destroyers were in position, Lt. Foose proceeded to indicate targets for them, and while thus engaged he was fatally wounded by hostile artillery fire."
