Henry A. Knecht, Jr. was born on December 30, 1911. He was the son of Henry A. Knecht and Laura Ann Hall Scogin. He graduated from Normal Community High School in 1931.

Before entering the service, Henry was employed by the United States Electric Company of Springfield. He served in the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, at the age of 32, during the liberation of Vexin, France. Pvt Knecht is now buried in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois, USA.
