Robert W. Hales was born on December 26, 1918. He was the son of Frank B. Hales and Blanche A. Hunt Hales.

Robert served in Company L, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, at the age of 25, during the liberation of Vexin, France. PFC Hales is now buried in the Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley, Oakland County, Michigan, USA.
