Merlyn C. “Jake” Castner was born on August 25, 1911, in Ohio. He served in the 30th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized) as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, at the age of 33, during the liberation of Vexin, France, by a sniper while sitting in his halftrack. T5 Castner is now buried in the Tontogany Cemetery, Tontogany, Wood County, Ohio, USA.
