Avery Wilson Canup was born on March 28, 1921, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. He was the son of Luther Alexander Canupp and Jessie Lee Faggart Canupp.
Avery entered the service on June 18, 1942, and served in the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, during the liberation of Vexin, France, and is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.
