Alfred A. Zajac was born on June 4, 1920, in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Wojciech Zajac and Franciszka Taszynski Zajac.

Alfred served in the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 20, 1944, during the liberation of Vexin in France. He is now buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA. SSgt Zajac is commemorated on the Battle of Vexin monument in Fontenay-Saint-Père, France, but his unit inscribed is 313th Infantry Regiment.
