Edgar Eugene Grove was born on June 26, 1922, in Decatur, Illinois. He was the son of Charles Grove and Lota Grove. Edgar married Eloise Merriman on Feb 9, 1941.

Edgar served in the 507th Fighter Squadron, 404th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot on the P-47D #42-25849 during World War II. On July 23, 1944, at 15:35h, he was killed upon take-off in A-5 'Chippelle' airfield in Cartigny-L'Epinay, France, for armed reconnaissance and dive-bombing mission. 2Lt Grove attempted to make a turn on take-off too low in altitude at too low an airspeed causing the aircraft to stall and mush into the ground.

2Lt Grove is now buried in the Monticello Cemetery, Monticello, Piatt County, Illinois, USA.
