Robert Earl Carr was born on September 13, 1922. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Carr.
Robert served in the 359th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot during World War II.
On January 16, 1945, 1Lt Carr was flying P-51D-15 #44-15528 on an operational mission. While the group was over the continent, the bases in the United Kingdom became non-operational due to adverse weather conditions, and the group was notified to land on the continent and spend the night, and Lt Carr landed at A-61 along with several of the other pilots.
On January 17, 1945, at approximately 1315 hours, 1Lt Carr took off from A-61 to return to his home base. According to the flying control officer at A-61, he received a telephone call from the MP's at 1:25 PM, stating that an aircraft had crashed near St-Pierre, France. For an unknown reason, the 1Lt Carr's plane hits the ground shortly after takeoff. He was killed in this incident.
1Lt Carr is now buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse, La Crosse County, Wisconsin, USA.
