Lester H. Knapp was born on November 18, 1921. He was the son of Ruth Carney.
Lester served in the 360th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot of the P-47 'Knapp Sack' during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 12, 1944, when his airplane was hit by light flak, hit the ground, and exploded while strafing a small marshaling yard at Montcornet, France, around 3:30 PM. His airplane crashed in the town of Montaigu - 7 km southwest of Sissone - 15 km southeast of Laon.
1Lt Knapp is now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.
