Shelby N. Jett was born on May 4, 1922. He was the son of Curtis Covington Jett and Lina Fenton Cornelison Jett.
Shelby served in the 361st Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot of the P-51 44-15666 'Jett Job' during World War II. He died of wounds on July 8, 1945. While returning to base in an A. 35 airplane as a passenger, the airplane in which 1Lt Jett was flying on the back leg of the landing pattern caught fire necessitating the pilot bellying the ship in a nearby field. 1Lt Jett received severe burns and died the next day in the East Suffolk Hospital, Ipswich, England, as a result of these burns.
1Lt Jett is now buried in the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky, USA.
