Vance Clarence Harney was born on September 29, 1921, Parke County, Indiana. He was the son of Clarence Lee Harney and Nell Alice Martin Harney.

Vance served in the 359th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot during World War II. He was killed on return from an operational mission near Biggleswade, Bedford, England, on January 10, 1945.

2Lt Harney is now buried in the Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville, Parke County, Indiana, USA.
