Ray C. Fortner was born on April 13, 1918. He was married to Josephine Frances Deliman Fortner.

Ray served in the 359th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot during World War II. He was killed in a formation training accident near Witnesham, Suffolk, England, on January 4, 1944, aboard his P-47D #42-22544.

2Lt Fortner is now buried in the City of Nogales Cemetery, Nogales, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA.
