Carl W. Dunn entered military service in California. He served in the 360th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on April 9, 1944, in P-47 #42-76147. 2Lt Dunn was returning from a spotting mission, climbing through an overcast when he apparently developed vertigo. His airplane spun in and crashed about a mile north of Bueston Station in Norfolk, England.
2Lt Dunn is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
