James A. Des Jardins was born on November 14, 1923, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was the son of John Des Jardins and Nettie Lefevre Des Jardins.
James served in the 360th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot during World War II. He was killed in Germany but was Missing in Action on November 25, 1944. His P-51 #44-15133 was hit by light flak, crashed, and exploded while strafing a marshaling yard in the vicinity of Fulda, Germany. Later reports stated that the plane was seen going down into a lake (this version later became the true one) in Germany.
2Lt Des Jardines body and his fighter were found in a pond in Germany in 2011. His remains were returned to his family, and he was buried in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
