William Wallace Cotter, Jr. was born in 1923 in New Jersey. He was the son of Frank Cotter and Alberta Cotter. He served in the 359th Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Fighter Pilot during World War II. In his P-47D #42-76211, 1Lt Cotter was killed in a training accident at Martlesham Heath, England, on February 22, 1944. He is now buried in the North Cedar Hill Cemetery Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA.
