William C. Lewis was born on January 26, 1923, in Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Harold Capon Lewis and Georgia C Chapp Christensen.

He attended DePauw and Northwestern universities and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

William served in the 863rd Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator during World War II. He was Killed in Action on February 20, 1945, while flying over Germany. 2Lt Lewis is now buried in the Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, DuPage County, Illinois, USA.
