Haskell E. Newman was born on March 25, 1921, in Moody, Texas. He was the son of Lilbern N. Newman and Vera M. Pierce Newman. He was married to Mae Beth Deviney Henderson.

Haskell served in the 861st Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Waist Gunner during World War II. He was killed in an airplane crash in England on March 30, 1945. He is now buried in the Moody Cemetery, Moody, McLennan County, Texas, USA.
