Carl Elgin McClendon was born on March 23, 1922, in Warrenton, Alabama. He was the son of Homer E McClendon and Emma E Alexander McClendon.
On July 20, 1944, he was serving aboard B-24 #41-29560 “Mizry Merchant” as a Bombardier when it ran out of fuel off Bawdsey and crashed in the English Channel. 2Lt McClendon was the only member of the crew to be killed. He is now buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
