Carol D. Cheek was born on July 12, 1924. He was the son of Coy Emmett Cheek and Mary Marine Sheeks Cheek.

Carol served in the 860th Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Ball Turret on the B17 #43-38214 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 12, 1944, when his airplane, piloted by Lt Alf Goodman, was shot down by an enemy aircraft and crashed at Wackersleben, north of Halberstadt, Germany. Out of 8 crew members, two of them were Killed in Action.

SSgt Carter is now buried in the Stockton Cemetery, Stockton, Cedar County, Missouri, USA.
