Jack Roger Allen was born on June 11, 1921, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the son of Royal Charles Allen and Mabel Emma Bertha Helmann Allen.
Jack served in the 860th Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Waist Gunner on the B24 #42-94927 'Sweet Job!' during World War II. On June 8, 1944, his crew took off from airfield Station 152 in Debach, England, on a bombing mission to Nantes/Dinan in France. His airplane was shot down by flak and at exactly 9 o'clock, Pilot Digges resolves to give the order to all his crew to leave the plane quickly while respecting a space of time between them which will allow them to be dispersed in the surrounding countryside, making them more difficult to locate by the enemy. Each aviator is busy putting on their parachute with reciprocal control to check if the parachute of the comrade is well in place and well fixed. Sergeant Allen was the first to jump into the void.
Sergeant Allen meanwhile landed near a country lane leading to the village of ''Cottrel''. Unfortunately for him, the Germans who came from Médréac in motor vehicles stopped him immediately. Prisoner of the Germans, he is onboard a truck that takes him to a Stalag in Germany. On a road, a group of 6 spitfires rushed on the truck. Allen was killed instantly.
Sgt Allen is now buried in the Silver Lake Cemetery, Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin, USA. The death date on his headstone is June 21, 1944.
