John Thomas McArthur, Jr. was born on January 6, 1923. He was the son of John Thomas McArthur and Ethel Simpson.

John, Jr. served in the 753rd Bomber Squadron, 458th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Flight Officer and Pilot on the B-24 #42-94811 “Tommy Thumper II” during World War II. He was Killed in Action during a training flight on January 22, 1945, in Old Catton, England. Attempting to return to the airfield, the four-motored bomber lost power and crashed just southeast of modern-day Norwich International Airport.

F/O McArthur is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
