Richard H. Perry was born on August 13, 1920. He was married to Audrey Mae Melton Perry.

Richard served in the 570th Bomb Squadron, 390th Bomb Group, as a B-17 pilot during World War II. On February 9, 1945, the 390th Bomb Group flew Mission #253. The target was a synthetic oil plant in Weimar-Eisenach, Germany. Lt. Morris was the lead pilot and Maj. Perry was the command pilot. The 390th neither lost nor cost aircraft. The munitions industry in Weimar was the secondary target of Mission #824 for the 8th Air Force, and the 390th flew with 198 of the 1,296 bombers assigned that day.

Post-war, he was President of the 390th BG Veterans Association in 1986. On the 13th of May 1981, Lt. Col. Perry unveiled a memorial plaque to the 390th Bomber Group at the Control Tower at Parham Airfield.

LTC Perry died on March 21, 1991, at the age of 70. He is now buried in the United Methodist Cemetery and Memorial Garden, New Providence, Union County, New Jersey, USA.
