Robert S. Newsome was born in 1925. He was the son of Lincoln V. Newsome and Margaret Brinson Newsome.
Robert served in the 848th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Tail Gunner on the B-17 #43-37886 "Pennsy Belle" during World War II. He was Killed in Action on November 25, 1944, during a mission to Merseburg, Germany. His plane was shot down by flak and crashed at Apolda, Germany. Sgt Newsome was able to jump out of the airplane, but he was probably drowned in a nearby lake.
Sgt Newsome is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
