Richard Curtis Buttler was born on May 26, 1920, in Nebraska. He served in the 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He was killed on March 12, 1944, a few minutes after taking off at the Mountain Home Army Air Base at Idaho, aboard B-24E #42-7239.
The other crew members who perished were Harold J Phillips, Cecil M Morris, Stanley N Millholen, and John H Suttle.
2Lt Buttler is now buried in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.
