Charles Russell “Russ” Noblin was born on September 26, 1922, in Clover, Virginia. He was the son of Sterling Edward Noblin and Iva May Clark Noblin.
Charles served in the 848th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Radio Operator on the B-17 #43-37618 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 13, 1944, in Roydon, England, when his airplane crashed after a mid-air collision with B-17 #43-38051. The crash resulted in the death of seven members of his crew, while the other airplane had four casualties.
SSgt Noblin is now buried in the City Point National Cemetery, Hopewell, Hopewell City, Virginia, USA.
