William Hubert Turner was born on September 20, 1922, in Blaine, Maine. He was the son of Colby Wesley Turner and Mildred Clewley Turner.
William resided in York County, Maine prior to the war. He served as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot on P-38J #42-67939, 38th Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
On February 24, 1944, he took off from airfield station 131 in Nuthampstead, England, on a bomber escort mission over Gotha, Germany. At 2:10 PM, he was shot down by flak in the Watton, Pas de Calais, France area- 10 km northwest St-Omer, and crashed. 2Lt Turner did not survive. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
