Roland M. "Rollo" Malmstedt entered military service in New York. He served in the Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group, as a Major/operations officer and Fighter pilot. He was killed in a plane crash in England on December 2, 1943. It is believed that it was while "test hopping" his plane after a raid.
