John A. Romeo was born on June 23, 1918. He was married to Josephine Pila Huerta Romeo.
John served in the 66th Bomber Squadron, 44th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Assistant Operator of the B-24 #41-23771 during World War II. On January 3, 1943, their plane crashed near the crossroads south of Little Newcastle, returning from a mission to U-Boat yards (submarine) at St. Nazaire, France. Fuel shortage caused the crash. Romeo was injured and hospitalized until January 6, 1943. Copilot Canfield was killed and the only fatality.
SSgt Romeo died on September 7, 2004, at the age of 86, and is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA.
