Vincent L. Evans was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps after his 18th birthday. After taking classification tests in Tennessee, it was determined he would be able to be a pilot. His training included pre-flight training in Alabama and flight school in Missouri. He reported to Mississippi for crew assignment. He was assigned as the pilot for crew #52, 570th Bomber Squadron. He served at Framlingham, England with the 390th Bomb Group. He flew 35 combat missions. After completing their tour, Evans returned to the United States on the USS Uruguay.
