Jack Bertram was born on November 11, 1920, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He served as a B-17 pilot in the 412th Bomber Squadron, 95th Bombardment Group during World War II.
Bertram’s crew flew 36 missions total—two on D-Day. At the time, 35 was the required number of missions for a crew before they were sent home. Bertram and his crew were sent back to America on the Queen Mary.
