Benny Cala was born on May 17, 1911. He served in the 62nd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group, as a Corporal during World War II. He was Killed in Action on March 29, 1944, in the explosion when bombs exploded after two B-24's collided during form up after take-off from RAF Halesworth, England. Sixteen airmen were killed aboard the two Liberators and nineteen USAAF personnel and civilian personnel died during rescue and firefighting. Cpl Cala is now buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, Bergen County, New Jersey, USA
